چکیده

The Institute of Space Systems plans to launch the micro-satellite Flying Laptop into a sun synchronous orbit at the end of 2006. The satellite will be equipped with a camera payload system operating in the visible and near infrared spectral range as well as in the thermal region. This payload will be used to monitor the Earth surface with a ground sample distance (GSD) of 25 m in the visible and near infrared domain and with a GSD of 50 m in the thermal region. In all spectral regions mentioned above the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF) and the Temperature Directional Distribution Function (TDD) respectively will be measured using the target pointing mode. In addition, the transmission of the signal of communication Ka-band can be used to collect a data set describing the attenuation of the Ka-band under different weather conditions in Central Europe. Under rainy conditions, we will test a new method to measure the rain rate exploring the concept of differential absorption of the Kaand Ku-band signals due to presence of rain in the intervening atmosphere.

A small satellite of the University Stuttgart - a demonstrator for new techniques

The Flying Laptop is a micro-satellite currently under development by the Institute of Space Systems. Several promising technologies will be implemented. A high agile attitude control system with a pointing knowledge better than 7 arcseconds, operating in a target pointing mode for image acquisition is necessary to achieve the planned scientific measurements. For communication a high speed Ka-b...

FPGA-based Reconfigurable On-board Computing Systems for Space Applications

The purpose of the thesis is to conceptualize an application method of ground-based reconfigurable FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technologies for space systems and to apply the method to the on-board computer of the small satellite Flying Laptop for the on-orbit demonstration. The Flying Laptop satellite is the first small satellite within the “Stuttgart small satellite program” in which...

Scheduling a constellation of agile earth observation satellites with preemption

In this paper, we consider a scheduling problem for a set of agile Earth observation satellites for scanning  different parts of the Earth’s surface. We assume that preemption is allowed to prevent repetitive images and develop four different preemption policies. Scheduling is done for the imaging time window and transmission time domain to the Earth stations as well. The value of each picture ...

Attitude Synchronization Control in Satellite Formation Flying in the Presence of States Measurement Errors

This paper presents a novel attitude synchronization framework for tracking control of multiple identical/heterogeneous satellites in formation flying with connected communication graph. The main contribution of the paper is considering sensors' measurement error to derive control gains. Moreover, the proposed strategy need no angular velocity communication. Nevertheless, the tracking synchroni...
